The time has finally come, a positive pregnancy test!
You might be able to shout it from the rooftops and prefer to call everyone immediately to share this great news. But when is the right time to share this?
The time to tell about your pregnancy is personal
Of course, the most important thing is that you do what makes you feel good. The right time to tell others about pregnancy is different for everyone and very personal. There is therefore no limit to when you should or should not tell. You and your partner decide when the right time is there to share the big news with everyone!
Wait for the term ultrasound
Most people wait until after the term ultrasound which takes place in the 12th week of pregnancy, because then the risk of a miscarriage is smaller. 80% of miscarriages happen in the first 3 months of pregnancy. If things then go wrong, you don't necessarily have to tell everyone this bad news. On the other hand, this is also the reason for some to tell your parents and / or best friends earlier. They can offer you comfort and support in the event of bad news.

Spoiler
Sometimes it is simply not possible to wait until the term ultrasound to share the news. Maybe you are very nauseous and you are not holding anything in, or your belly is starting to grow very quickly. Or perhaps you have planned some parties where it is not possible to discreetly not drink alcohol or leave your favorite dishes. For some it is therefore easier to tell than to keep making up new excuses.
When do you tell that you are pregnant at work?
You are legally obliged to inform your employer three weeks before you go on maternity leave, but it is wiser to do this earlier. Especially because you will probably gain more understanding if you no longer want or can no longer do some work. For example, tell your employer after 12 weeks that you are pregnant. This gives them enough time to find replacement and to hand over tasks. Note: Only when you have informed your employer are you entitled to protection in the workplace during your pregnancy and after childbirth. Your employer is then obliged to provide replacement work if you are no longer able to perform certain tasks properly.

How to tell you are pregnant?
Ultimately the time has come, the news is allowed to come out and go into the world. But how do you do this? It's personal for everyone. But of course we do have some great ideas to bring the news in a fun way. For example, you can post the first ultrasound photo on social media. You can also do a photo shoot, using some attributes that make the news clear, for example with fun letter blocks or a baby foil balloon!
